I gravitated toward Husky as I became familiar with a couple models at my job years ago. I set my sights on a 357 for my first and what I thought at the time would be my only "pro" saw...boy was I mistaken!..

Anyway, I like the shape of the handle, the general handling characteristics, buckles instead of screws for quick easy filter/cyl cover removal on my 3-series Huskies which are my favorite. 2-series Huskies a very close second because YAHOO 242 and HOORAY 288! Nuff said ;)

Edit to add: Honorable mention for Dolmar. I've run a 6400 a fair bit and a tank of fuel out of a red and black Makita 421. Terrific saws for the price point, very well made, and run the way you would expect any comparably sized pro saw to run. Just wish there was a better dealer network for them.. Dollies would certainly be my second brand and I would likely have one or two hiding in my pumpkin patch.

I lean towards echo based on my experience with their reliability and pricing. That being said, I look at model more than brand. My favorites are echo cs520, husky 372xp and stihl ms661.

My favorite saw is an angry one, that doesn’t suck, and I don’t care anymore what color or words are around it, it’s gotta run my chain like it owns it. I’ve got Stihl, Husky, Dolmar, Echo, Poulon, McCulloch, Partner and not a single one sucks !
QTLA!!!! I also like them all, ran a opened up cs600 echo the other day! That was a damn fine unit indeed

TROOF!!!!!!! I do prefer my Huskys but only because that is who I am a dealer for, so parts are readily available and there is a good flow of base material (blown up saws) for projects. When I was a Stihl dealer it was cream sickles for the same reason.

For me it's Dolmar. Strictly because of the value. I have no issues at all with any other brand. Would live to have some. Comes down to the dollar. I can buy quality pro grade equipment for the same cost of farm and ranch (clamshell). I don't need it. Don't put more than 10 tanks a year through any of mine. Latest one just picked up a NIB never fueled 2012 510 for $275. Local dealer is selling new 5105's for $409. I hate hand filing in the woods. Would rather be cuttin. Just grab another saw. Hmm. I ran out of sharp ones and had to file yesterday. That's lookin like an even better deal.

Sexy, well built, powerful, aren't *b-wording, awesome voice, ready to go whenever I need them too, turning heads whenever I introduce them to a new environment.

Love 'em, want a couple more, need much much more firewood logs though!

Dolmar is my choice, no regrets so far

I Have many different makes but
Husky's the 2 series started me on them 288s my favorite.
Then some of the 3 series I'm partial to.
The 371/372 is like the 1911
Of the saw world lol
You can do anything to them
Buy a endless variety of parts to
Upgrade them.

We all have our preferences, and that is not a knock on other brands, just what we prefer. All my saws are Stihl, and it will likely stay that way for several reasons:

- The first saw that "wowed" me was my 10 mm 044 purchased new (on sale) in Dec 1992. I never ran my "troubled" Homelites again. The 044 was just so much faster and more powerful, and far more durable, I never looked back (the Homelites had perpetual problems with the recoil starter, to this day, my 044 is still has the original starter).

- My B+C will interchange on all my saws, from 026/261 to 066/660s. I like that. Part of the reason I went with a 362 instead of a 562 was because the 562 used a different bar. I like keeping it simple. Having two different bar mounts on their own 60 cc saws (large + small) just seems insane to me. The thought of buying a separate set of bars just for the 562 did not appeal to me. Back when I only had one saw, I often used to bring an extra B+C with me into remote areas.

- I prefer the inboard clutch, and all my saws have them. You are entitled to feel differently.

- IMO, the use of T-27s is a big advantage. Again, keeps it simple.

So there you have it. Admittedly, it was more of an evolution than a choice, and I have run a lot of great saws from other makers. However, Stihl makes something good in just about every category, and the new products on the horizon seem like they will extend that. The Ver II 261 + 362 also provide great power to wt in their respective categories.

First, Stihl because there everywhere around here. This is Stihl country only.
Second, is two mounts 3005 3003 done.
Third, they can take it.
The good news is I'm sliding in some Smurf/Dolly friends.

The Husky thing just didn't take with me but I'm willing to build a 395 to mill with. I'd prefer a Mac. No parts :( available for regular milling.

The rest have some cool looking and sounding machines.

I hate to burst y'alls bubbles, but Stihl uses 3 mounts, just like Husky and Dolmar/Makita:

The little saws use a 3005 mount
Medium saws, up to the 660 use the 3003 mount
The big saws use the 3002 mount

How is that any different than Husky, other than where they chose to split their mount sizes?

You can keep those 3002 mount bricks.
None of it matters now. Just buy all 14mm slots and get adapters.
