A few years back I took it to a local guy and had the carb ran through his USC when it all went back together they tuned it with no bar/chain at 12,5k , it was terrible but he said it was safe. That's when I ordered a USC and a tach of my own. At 12,5 k I thought it had been castrated.
Good lawd it must have been a grunting pig at that tune. I occasionally use rpm just to have extra info after I tune by ear. Mainly after I Port a Saw to see what I’ve gained, but that’s about it.

Yep.. it was awful. I'm sure situations like that are what gives any good saw a bad rap. But at least my carb got a good soak in the Jacuzzi . I do about the same tuning, I give the saw what it wants and check with the tach to make sure I wasn't having a deaf moment.

“A deaf moment”...lol! That’s exactly the reason I check on occasion. I made his video of my 357 and didn’t realize til I watched the video that I had it tuned just a little too high. It started out 4 strokin but leaned out after a few cuts. Guess I got caught up in the piss revving moment. Lol

Yep, a deaf moment. Funny in a way how through PPE and a screaming saw we can still hear the slightest little crack in the tree we are felling. But sometimes cant hear a few hundred rpm differences. Must be a survival instinct thing.

I would never try and tune a saw with no B&C on it, not sure why anyone else would either. Heck, I don't even consider a tune "final" until after a few cuts are made to get good heat in the cylinder. But I should say it was good he at least made sure she was safely fat for you. Having a B&C on does give it some load compared to not having them.

I wouldn't worry about 13.2k if your 55 is happy there. Like you say, listen to what it is asking for and don't get too caught up with the number.

Edit to add: I have run a saw with no B&C to get a very rudimentary initial tune on it. As in, you can get the low side pretty close and a few quick blips of the throttle can give you a rough idea on the high side. That's probably what he did and I shouldn't have come down so hard on him about it. For some reason all I could picture in my mind when you posted that is someone piss-revving a saw with no B&C on it... YIKES!

Nah. They are a reputable shop with a good following. I just didnt like paying for a tune-up that de tuned my saw. Again tho. I did get my carb sqeaky clean and at the time i couldnt do that myself. Live and learn.

Any way these build threads could be pinned somewhere? @Mastermind @Jon1212 There’s good stuff in all these threads. I understand you can find them if you do the google search using Ope forum. However if they were all in one place pinned Well you know. Just a thought. They’re damn good

You can also pin the first post yourself, by using the newly added bookmark feature.

Fair enough. I personally can use the google search to find what I’m lookin for and bookmark them. It still may be a decent idea for them to all be in one area pinned. It took me a couple years to learn how to do that. I’m not so tech savvy.
For a new member it could still be beneficial.
If it’s just a cut and paste sorta thing , ya know it could help maybe. And stuff

Thanks. Last one I rescued. They usually clean up well.

And I'm using Chrome also.

Just figured out the bookmark thing at the lower left of a post next to the posting time and report function. Seems to be browser agnostic and an option for any post..., with the first post of a thread being the most logical one to bookmark for future reference of a given thread. Nice feature.
I normally just use my Watched Threads list for referencing past threads, but this bookmark deal lets you do the same thing without having to sub to a thread. Hmmmm. Can you get alerts for bookmarked threads that you haven't participated in? I can see that being sorta cool, too....

...., but not as cool as Jon24 or some more Husky 55's.
