Muffler on my Jonsered 2152 (formerly "C" model, catalytic converter muffler which is in the picture)

mdavlee was nice enough to weld it up for me, 3/4" pipe outlet. Very nice sound, not loud to me. Sounds like it has some authority, and a good tone.

I am very sensitive to high frequency sounds, so a 372 OE with high rpm porting of 16,000 or so would be a bit much with a modded muffler. Have not been near one in person, but can hear the tinny scream in videos. From what MM says about 372's, they get annoying screaming their tits off at 16,000 rpm...

This little saw woke up a lot with this... both in low end and top end.

I have one for my 372 XT, but it's a 1" pipe outlet.

If you want a loud muffler mod, find a good running Pro Mac 700, and take the muffler outlet cover off... wow, feel that exhaust note pound your eardrums... I bought one without those parts on it. Same for 10-10 or other variants of the old 10 series Macs.

I have yet to see what my other Mac project will sound like... the outer half of the muffler was all rusted and beat up, so I made my own cover for it. It is merely a deflector. No baffle, screen, or whatever in there. You will be able to see the piston while looking under the deflector into the muffler.

Let me be clear, I'm not saying a muff mod will not add some power to most saws, I'm just asking if there is a point when more modding does not add more power, or even worse, robs some low end grunt.

That is why a dyno would be much nicer than just timed cuts.
