I've shown pics of a 1988 jred 625 with a lot of time on it that was run on orange bottle for 15 years and boat oil for 10 more. Bearings and crown were charcoal black. Rings were worn out. It actually reminded me of the pics from guys running Lucas. Gave the cylinder and piston away in the Christmas thread last year.

I'm not promoting using any tcw3. But the stuff Scott uses just plain works. I've seen the 044 he talks about and it's beat to hell, but the piston and cylinder look good.
I know a logger thats uses wal mart supertech outboard oil and has for years. He gets decent or even long life out of some saws, yet others puke pretty early. Internals look like one would expect. Id also say as the yeara have gone by and saws have started to run hotter and use less oil his ratio of long runners to pukers has gone down hill.

They do it pretty much in one tank on the intake side like the 372 xtorq
I suspect terrible port chamfers as being the cause. If I bought one I would tear down chamfer and reassemble before I ran it. Mostly because seeing that wear would drive me nuts.

Ported chainsaws become extraordinary performers. Using a strong, quality Synthetic oil is a great place to start.

Volume of oil in the ratio makes up for a lessor oil of any kind. To a degree that is difficult to define.

If one has a ported saw that was done up by a pro porter, I think it is important to run what the porter suggests, or at least check with him on the oil used.
If the porter is going to back the saw, then one should at least oblige.

This 028 Super was brought into the shop the otherday and the fellow said it needs alil tuneup. This is what I discovered20180111_183234.jpgAfter showing him the damage from a stuck ring he said but it was running fine and just needed alil tuning. I ask him what oil do u use and he said Im not sure but I have a bottle in the back of the truck. I wasnt suprised in the least when he lifted up a Stihl silver bottle. Look in the ring lands and I had already scraped alot out after breaking the rings to get them free. Wonder how many saws r out there running that crap that folks say it works just fine and is on the brink of this situation?

There is more problems with that 028 than just Stihl Ultra oil I would say.

Notice the dirt on the Piston side deposited there. Air filter problems?
Dirty air filter didnt help but when this oil comes in contact with high temps this is exactly what it does. See it everyday. Good for business though

It could be
I remeber putting a new piston in my 390 and after tearing it down for inspection and it was rubbing on the intake skirt. You told me u had seen them from the factory test runs that look like this and since then everyone I have torn down look the same except the 550xp and my 562xp Ive had . They were both spotless
