I did some 12' long 32" wide oak planks that where 1.5 tanks of fuel per cut on a 395. Heat on the bar wasn't bad, aux oiler helps a lot. The saw took it better than my body.

My Asian 660 is looking much better now!!! I thought it sucked gas. Was able to mill 34" Red Oak 7.5' on less than a tank, and I'm sure my tank is smaller. I think a tank went 1 + 1/2 boards, or about 11.5 -12 ft.

After that, I made sure to re fill after each cut.

Lol! I see it everyday Ryan. I love good help like these fellers! They make me alil $$$$

Touche' buddy...I make some spare jingle taking stuff home.

Mistakes happen..I cut a 150' of 1/2" in half back in august....I felt like a possums pecker.

I always say I'm gonna quit working on chainsaws but I end up with 3 a week..never fails :(

Come on over my way Man. Garentee you and Wifey could find jobs.

As *s-wordty as it is where she works she makes too much money since it's state funded, she actually likes working with the bad kids, more satisfying to her.

94 grand after her 12th year there..that's hard to say no to....but it comes at a price..idk.

Can I just move in with you ? .. I won't piss on the toilet seat..I swear.

I agree... you havent worked around many laborers that run saws though either I can tell. Tree service, mill operators, skidder operators, etc.... it's just a tool and if we trash it the boss buys another. Those are the saws that us saw collectors find cheap and buy to fix.

That's a true statement.

Finding someone that half way knows what their doing that doesn't have a drug problem and a drivers license is like finding a unicorn.

Ask them to supply their own chainsaws...lol.

It can be a miserable job..trust me.

That dilemma is in many fields today as well. Both my sons are in management positions -- they comment often it is very difficult to find anyone in their generation that wants to work (they want a paycheck and position, but just don't want to work). :( The drug/alcohol problem crosses all lines. Finding dependable people is very difficult.

Its not that they are not making enough to care, its that they don't care and cannot be taught care....or much of anything.

Its a harsh truth that is not universal but it sure feels like it.

My son remarked to the VP of the company he works for, which said, "how can we get these guys to care about what they do?"
He said, "at this point I don't think I can teach them what they did not learn at home."

I don't know much about those kinda jobs, but I know finding a dude that wants to bleed, sweat, freeze, get stung by bees, covered in poison ivy and beat your body up every day for a measly pay is not common.

Yup. Was Production Manager of a Ammunition plant for many years. Wanted to cut drug testing for weed. HR said no, was trying to fill over a 100 positions and had bright people who couldn't pass a pee test. And we are way off topic. Lol

We do some tree removal at my job with the highway department. I'm the bucket truck man. Sweat, and blood I can handle...f-word bees and freezing...I'm not allergic to bees in the strictest technical sense, but I could be in some serious doo-doo if I got hit in the throat or neck multiple times as I swell up more than most people. I think I have been exposed to poison ivy but have not yet reacted..but I'm not trying to push my luck with that either. I'm told a person that doesn't react to poison ivy could start reacting overnight.

I was responding to the statement about the 395 having slipping clutches. This is human error.

I've always wondered why tree service employees aren't required to provide their own saws. You take much better care of your equipment when you paid for it. When I was an auto tech I never wanted to work in a shop where tools were provided. They were always missing and abused, I couldn't take any pride in my work with crappy tools. I would rather buy my own tools and know that I had what I needed at all times, and not worry about what the other numbskulls were doing to them. When I quit mechanicing for a living I easily had 10k in tools.
Because we get to write off all the saws, and they would show up empty, with loose chains, dirty air filters. Just depends on the type of tree service. I take pride in my saws and work. They get blown off with air, filled up, chain replaced or sharpened at the end of every day when the guys have went home. Some are out to operate as cheap and make every penny as possible and do it only for the money. I love what I do and get paid to have fun. That's how I look at it anyway. And we are drug and alcohol free. You also have to realize many of the low end tree companies are drinking and doing drugs throughout the day. Lol they could care less about a dirty air filter.
