So I won a hidden auction (farming implements category) on flea-bay for this 084 that was in bits.

£122 all in...

Been talking to the guy/seller before buying it and he had pulled it to bits to replace the PTO case half that had cracked.
Piston, rings, cylinder, crank yadda yadda are all from the working saw, which was working apart from the crack in the case.

I am going to delve through the IPL but from a brief look all bits (main bits at least) seem to be there.

So what should I look out for, any hidden gremlins or things to look out for other that the usual seals, rubbers etc? gonna mod the muffler, put new SKF's in and look at what can be improved in the cylinder without going over board.

I will take pictures of the parts once I have given them a thorough cleaning.

Yay 084!! :pesas::risas3:

I have been cross comparing the IPL's of the 084 and 088 to figure out what I have as a few parts seem to be causing me a headache.

So can a 088 sprocket, clutch and oiler gear be used with an 084 oiler or even on an 084 crank?

Can a 088 case be used with an 084 crank?

It seems I have a very clean set of 088 case halves and a not so clean set of 084 cases. I also have an 088 oiler, 088 sprocket and the likes. I do not have the 084 crank oiler gear that is driven off the clutch sprocket. I have the newer 088 hook set up..

It seems I have a hotch potch of a few of the bits and I am wondering what will work and what won’t.

Thanks guys!

Cranks are different on the flywheel end if I remember right. You'll have to use the crank and flywheel/coil combo that came with each. Then mufflers may not line up. Cylinder mounting is a little different as well spits not a simple swap

Cheers bud,

I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly the 084 cases I got were tatty but usable. Looks like there is a small section of the pto case half between the clutch and tank that has cracked off, nothing that a good repair couldn't fix, followed by a repaint.

What about the oiler hose to bar output, are these interchangeable, the braided one on the 084 is wasted. Think there is a neat and clean one under the 088 cover if I remember.

And then the chain brake handle is broken, an 088 (which I can get hold of) has a different part number to an 084, but I guess the mounts are the same?

Just printed off two IPL's to figure out and cross reference everything into 084 and 088 piles. It looks like every part is there but whether they are 084 or 088 is hard to tell by eye, time to tick off the part numbers me thinks.

The oiler hose probably interchanges. Alot of the oiler drive and clutch stuff does. Handle bars do as well.

I don't know right off. Somewhere to ground or attach to the switch. I'll try to look at mine if I have time later.
