I will try to get a video. Normally the saw is pulled down to 7500 rpm or so...it never stops and nor does the chain...but its slipping. My W.A.G. would be 15% or so. What happens is it pulls so good down low and there is not enough centrifugal force holding the shoes locked up. A good operator and sharp chain it won't do it. Its not a stall... its a slip. Think of a tractor tire plowing a field with 10-15% slip. Still plowing...but she is slipping constantly.

Well of course if you lug it down that hard it's gonna slip. Makes no sense to run one down that far at all. Too much load will also cause more issues than just a slipping clutch.

I've always wondered why tree service employees aren't required to provide their own saws. You take much better care of your equipment when you paid for it. When I was an auto tech I never wanted to work in a shop where tools were provided. They were always missing and abused, I couldn't take any pride in my work with crappy tools. I would rather buy my own tools and know that I had what I needed at all times, and not worry about what the other numbskulls were doing to them. When I quit mechanicing for a living I easily had 10k in tools.

I can't speak for everyone or every area but the guys underneath me only make 12 bucks an hour..asking them to supply over a thousand bucks in saws would never happen, finding help is hard enough...add "must supply tools" to a wanted AD would make it a long shot at best.

Interested to hear how the people are dealt with who are the worst at neglecting and breaking saws. Put them on the chipper till it’s fixed? Grunt work? I hear ya on the Cost, good in concept but not practical.

Most guys I know cut cost at every corner they can, if an ms 250 makes it a year and does the same job a 241 or 261 did and suffers the same neglected fate it's a win.

I'd NEVER buy pro saws for my help if it was my business, I saw the asplundh boys using ms170s last week to trim tops..it makes sense.

Other than the big saws you have no option with.

Good point Ryan. Tree work is tough hard work. Pay is measly.

Finding someone that half way knows what their doing that doesn't have a drug problem and a drivers license is like finding a unicorn.

Ask them to supply their own chainsaws...lol.

It can be a miserable job..trust me.

I have heard the same thing locally here as well.

It's better to have a straight gassed or smashed 250 dollar saw..not a 6-700 dollar saw..they all die the same.

I've kinda got the guys I work with paying more attention and being more mindful of the *s-word that keeps the tools in better shape.

Good deal. Education is key. Most of the time generally speaking.
Other pro saws that tree companies use are the top handle saws. Most here use Stihl.
