It has been some time since Randy's GTG, and I hope some of you have had the opportunity to put some time on your Asian 660s.

So, how are they holding up???

My Flying Tiger needed a piston pin bearing after about 10 tanks, so it got the Big Bore treatment from Dr Al, but the bottom end (main bearings, crank, seals, etc) all still seem fine.

I'm in the process of building 2 more. Actually, both are running, but one needs work on the chain adjuster and the other is not oiling, so I ordered a new oiler.

Merry Christmas to all, and tell us how your 660s are doing.

Let me know, I missed my opportunity to get in while the getting was good.
By the time you, decide I may almost be over Santa's financial modification plan. Unless you reply immediately...

I have one with a cross as it came out of the box. It will at least have the roof arched a little before I sell. The other has the FT with the shiny intake and exhaust and is ported. I have a Mako cylinder to put on it, as I'd rather not sell it with the FT cylinder on it. Both saws have an oem wrist pin bearing and clips

If you want to move one at a reasonable price, just let me know. I still got another cross top end that needs a home!
I am not up on current market value for one of these Mike, and I will probably end up owning one or two. That's partially based on your experience with em and Walt's. What would you think reasonable $ is, for the average saw, now that you're fairly experienced with em, I realize that it is subjective, or basically whatever the market will bear.

I really don't know. With a Cross P+C, and OEM piston pin bearing & clips, etc., I'll likely sell some to friends + relatives for $300, but that does not cover any labor. I'm sure you could get more for them in the market, but if you are building them to make money, your time is not worth much.

I end up doing lots of little mods to get things to end up right, heck even modding the muffler & muffler gasket takes me a couple of hours. If you don't open that gasket up, you are restricting the Cross exhaust outlet.

The oiler and chain adjuster can be a pain in the neck. Installing the chain break is also a PITA, but at least so far, the ones I have done have all worked well.

The hole through the plastic for the plug often has to be elongated (down), I always lube the recoils and often install an Elastostart cord. although they work OK as they are (but all seem stiff if you don't lube them).

Many things just don't line up as well as OEM, so you have to go carefully. I guess I just enjoy working on them every now and then like they are giant jig saw puzzles. If I was on a tight time frame, I would not be happy.

That said, I'm looking forward to running my most recent build. I opened the muffler up more, and with the timing advance it sounds real nice. I also think the Cross jug had some decent ports and #s (I did bevel the ports and center the intake inlet hole that was way off).

If it runs strong for several years, it will all be worth while.

My first one is still running well with the 36" bar. The 20" bar with the 8 tooth sprocket is very nice on it. I have about 5-6 tanks through it. Seemed to really loosen up around the 3rd or 4th tank and had to retune as it was over revving.

My 2nd one I started building last week and found I am missing the wrist pin bearing. I did have 2 clutch bearings though :) I ordered an OEM bearing since I had to order one. I haven't gotten it yet though as I'm on vacation, out of state.

It took some work, but I was able to get the chain adjusters to work.

On the Asian twins I recently finished (the cylinders seemed to have identical timing + ports, but the squish band had a defect on one) the only parts I replaced (I went OEM) were the piston pin bearing and piston pin clips.

I'd like to see how your ported Cross cylinder runs Al. Also, what filter are you running? Sounds like you have it pretty well set up.

I ran a couple of gallons thru the ported one i built...
it's still doing time with a part time tree guy...
no problems so far except leaky fuel/oil cap and the notchy cheap chain adjuster...
all easy fixes with oem replacements...

Mine still runs good, it has a meteor top end, stihl wrist pin bearing, and a stihl
Fuel cap, oiler works but I want more oil
So I'm gonna have a pump modded.
Mine has about 8 tanks of hard use.
I'm gathering parts to build a real 066
But probably will have a meteor top end because a real one is over 300 bucks.
For what I run saws I can't Spend that
Much

There are a lot of people who use a smaller saw(s) the vast majority of the time, but want something that can pull a bigger bar now + then. The low cost of these saws are very attractive to someone in that situation. (Who would not otherwise buy a saw that large).

I had both my Asian twins sold before I started building them, but I'm just building them for fun, not charging for my labor. (they go to friends or relatives).

Post the details of what you have and what you want, and you may be able to move them. I may still know others who want one.
