I got my Gransfors Bruk Splitting Ax in today. I was a bit nervous when I ordered it, but I must admit, I am impressed with it. For its size, it hits very hard. Very nice high quality tool. I could swing this all day long.
I did a real quick comparison with my Fiskars X27. They both hit hard with fast swing speed. I think the X27 hits a bit harder due to the longer handle. But, the GB may be a bit easier to control.
When I get some good equal rounds I will do a video of them.

Same here there’s been so many makers over the years I like these unbranded blacksmith forged tools , there’ll be morecome out the woodwork

There are some weird and wonderful axes in western mainland Europe
I’ve had a few but none a few years

Got the axe done today. Wasn’t able to sand all the pits out because I would’ve lost the stamp. Pits add character anyway. Used cold blue to get this finish, pretty happy with how it looks. My bluegrass axe cleaned up nicely after a 2 day soak in vinegar also. Next stop...handles.

I am still searching for the right stick of wood so I can do a good video comparison. But for now, just a quick video with my new Gransfors Bruk Splitting Axe. I am really liking this new splitting axe. It really hits hard. The verdict is still out on the handle length. I prefer a 36" handle. But all in all, this axe is a really nice high quality tool. My ultimate Splitting Axe would be this Gransfors Bruk design, but about a half pound heavier mounted on a 36" handle. The extra weight with extra handle length would make this the ultimate hand splitting tool.
I think the 5.5lb splitting maul is a bit too heavy.
