So it is a clam shell then? It will be interesting to see one in action and how it compares to the big 2 offerings

Nope..

The 5600 will have an intake setup similar to the 6100 and not the 3601.
Is the bottom end different ? Modular, similar to the 3601/352 rather than a full oil tank and crank split case ?

I still haven't opened up the 3601...[emoji35]
Life has gotten in the way. But I'm so excited to see these new saws from Makita. I think I'm going to need a 5600 also! [emoji12]And I think they nailed the styling! This thing is just plain sexy!!!

I love that the crankcases are modular! Let the skins take the abuse!!

My Makita contact gave me this trio to test at work, will share my thought later. I'm excited especially with the 352 because I ran the pre production version earlier... I usually work with Dolmar ps-6100 and ps-4605.

It will be good too see how that battery saw runs they've been critisced in the past for not being as lively as other brands

I have now put about five tanks through the new Dolmar ps-550. First impressions are good, it has high torque as you'd expect from a Dolmar. Accelerates fast, but doesn't rev as high as the pro models do, which can slow you down when limbing. The air filter has similar design with ps-6100 but is a lot smaller. Filtration is superb. Anti vibration is good, the 3 springs are somewhat thinner than on the 6100 that has 4 very sturdy springs.

Very, very nice. I wonder if we are going to get the 352 and 550 as Makitas here in the states? Wouldn't be hard to have the correct labels made for them!

Great post Finn logger :)
It is a nice saw it has very cool design lines I love the nice deep body , plenty of cooling around the muffler and engine block
How did you find the rear handle set up I did find it annoying with the joins on the sides gotta do some work on them

The rear handle is similar that in my 6100, it feels good in hand because of its curvy profile. It's also slightly higher than on husky 560 (see picture), giving better control when tilting the saw. The rubbery grip that the Makita battery saw has is my favourite, because it reduces the power needed to grip the handle firmly. Ps-352 has has a textured surface casted in the handle, I find it rather uneffective.
