Okay so they finally started selling premium e-free gasoline here local. Mixed up a couple of gallons filled my MS260. Started cutting....running rich. Hmmm. Started leaning it out with the H needle. Took a complete 1/2 turn CW to get it tuned proper again. I guess that ethanol really does create oxygen as it burns. Am I thinking right about this?

I would say probably. Some of the ethanol gas around here is up to 20 percent.

Get a can of Tru fuel, it should be close to the e free mix

I bet it is pretty close. Just can't make myself pay that kind of money for saw gas. Best deal on pre-mix here is $5.00 per quart can. I can make 8 quarts for about $12.00 if I mix it myself.

And for anybody buying the canned fuel in the “gallon” cans, you’re getting really ripped off, read the contents volume, they aren’t a full 128 ounces.

You might need to change the carb kit. They tend to stiffen up a bit after changing back to ethanol free fuel.

A vote in favor of TruFuel.

Just wanted to add, the worst thing about ethanol in my experience is how it degrades plastic. This is especially seen in hardening of fuel lines over time to the point they crack, but also causes problems with carb diaphragms. Also, since ethanol is hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture, which isn't good.

If you're the type of cutter who uses the saw late spring to early fall, and then puts it away for 5-6 months, my recommendation is that at the end of the season to dump out all the ethanol fuel from the gas tank. Then put in some e-free fuel and run the saw for a few minutes. Since e-free is hard to find in some areas, this is where a stop at the local home depot and picking up a can of TruFuel is helpful. Yes, it is expensive compared to normal gas, but you aren't running your saw on it all year. It is just an e-free fuel that "winterizes/stores" your saw in a better state than with ethanol in the gas/saw. Under these conditions, a can of tru-fuel can be used for several saws several times. Its actually even better than adding sta-bil or stabrite to the ethanol gas.

Speaking of winterizing a saw... I also recommend in addition to running TruFuel for the last fill of the season, after shutting it down, before putting it away, to pull the spark plug out and fog the cylinder with Marvel Mystery Oil or Lucas Oil Stabilizer for the winter storage period.

I also use nothing but e-free in all ope. It's 91 octane, I fill several cans at one time.

Stuff runs way better with this stuff too... more power, smoother running. Can sit for months and fire up later. Fuel lines stay flexible. (if it is a true fuel line, the stuff at Menards labeled 1/4" fuel line isn't any good, stiffens up and shrinks a little too)

I use some 102 efree. Love the smell and when you spill some it evaporates with a quickness!

Country Mark stations (some of them) sell it here in Southern Indiana....about 200 miles west of you! We also have a CITGO station that sells it....but only in the 87 octane variety.

Also, look here! From what I see you have several places to choose from in your neck of the woods!

If I had a source of premium straight dino gas I would use it. That being said, I've had excellent success adding a full ounce of stabilizer to premium E10. We've always had some E10 gas around here, I know Speedway has had ethanol ever since I was a kid.

I only have one source around here for ethanol free, but it's 88 octane, so I've never run it in any of my saws, unfortunately. I have always wanted to try it, since I live at 6,000' and cut between 7,000-10,000'. I don't think the lower octane rating would be an issue for me at these elevations?

Yeah, that's what I figured, but it's good to have it confirmed by you. From the time I was a kid, my dad always pounded into me to run premium in saws and I guess it stuck enough that I've always hesitated trying a lower octane grade, even with the air as thin as it is here.

I bought 2 cases($26 ea) 50:1 trufuel that I Dr up t0 32 whenever I open a can. I buy from my fuel oil supplier for furnace heat.
Not found anyone that comes close to his price. (but he has pallets of it)
I purge my saws with this when they're going to rest for a while.
Got tired of carb kits and fuel line replacement.
Eth. gas can kill a aftermarket carb. kit in literally weeks.
AND I've had the old poulan gas caps swell enough it takes an adjustable to remove them and they only cross thread going back in.
Let the caps sit a week or so out and they resume original size. But its that super hard plastic kinda like Bakelite.
Yes Eth. gas is to blame for this.

But I'd SURE hate to have to feed a 3120 trufuel on a regular basis.
