This will be the third year for a small local GTG, usually we screw around racing in a log...but ya know how that goes.
So I got a couple questions-
What size can't is usually used, 10x10 or 12x12?
What kind of wood?
Should I try to find clear wood?
Any pictures of can't stands?
Thanks

10x10 is good. Poplar, basswood, aspen, white pine are all good choices. Clear wood is preferred. My stand is big enough to set 2 12x12 side by side on. It's oversized for one cant but perfect to hold 2 and race off each end.

Info for the learning gtg's I used to do. We started at 2 cuts to help folks learn change over then went 3 cuts in 6" next year.

We were racing for fun 2 cuts in 4" width hot start over wood.

There was to be NO DQ's due to this is for fun and learning experience for all.
So you will see some guys with 2 times and I used their fastest time of the two for their place. If a guy cut out and DQ'ed we would give them a 2nd try and let them cut again for a timed cut and used that time for their place and son on and on.

We ran 40cc through 5ci in 8x8 and then 10x10 in 6ci up plus some 5ci ran in the 6ci class.

10x10 poplar at one of my ole gtg's.

Can see some cants in back on this one.

can someone post up what the "Cube" sizes are in relation to "CCs" cause I dunno how that works.... :(
it gets more complicated than even that Angelo
you can google how many CC is saw X and get a decent answer and there are all sorts of free internet widgets to convert CC to cubic inches
the goofy part is that there aren't really standard classes that you will see at all the GTGs or sanctioned events.
in particular the 346XP seems to ride the fence on several classes but is in general the biggest 3 cube allowed and the 281 is the biggest 5 cube in many races
like wise stock appearing can mean anything from " looks like it started life as a chainsaw" to " must look bone stock in every way, no bigger holes in muffler, no modified chains, etc."
Mike told me stories of loading up a dozen saws with his brother and driving out to a race only to find out that the owner of the event changed the classes so that they each only got to run in one class.
I think more guys would be interested and enjoy the heck out of chainsaw sports if they knew what to expect ahead of time.
3 cube is 49.16 cc but is normally rounded up to include the 50cc 346xp ne
4 cube is 65.54cc
5 cube is 81.93cc
6 cube is 98.32cc sometimes rounded up to 99cc
unlimited is anything over 6 cube
an 088 is a little less than 7 cube and an 090 is comfortably above 8 cube

unlimited can also mean a class where alky fuel, and pipes are allowed

I've got a page on my work computer for both stihl and the hussies that gives a lot of good info including cc's on each of their saws. Can't remember where I got them but I can probably send it tomorrow

I hope to keep it simple, plus it's husky land up here, last year we had a few 372 and 385 guys couple 562 and a 390. As far as I know I've got the only ported saws:campeon:. We've got a stand for logs but got to come up with something decent to hold cants

Well that clears that up for me....

Sounds like we need a "set of standards" and a governing body and rules committee. And of course a cool catchy name.I nominate @Jon1212 as the "catchy name " search chairman. @Definitive Dave is the standards chairman. @Mastermind as the judge.

I wanna be official pie taster...

If you google Bill's Saw Shop you can find charts on chainsaw models to include cc and ci info.
Here's a copy of the Husky chart
