EL-42 Help

I'm trying to get a Zama EL-42 dialed in on my mildly ported Husqvarna 346. Out of the box, it needed a little more fuel, so I drilled the main nozzle through both sides, which is I think the usual fix. I took the main nozzle to work and asked a machinist friend to drill it, which he did with a .029" bit. I tried the saw today and it was smoking rich even with the high screw turned all the way in. Does anyone have the part number and a source for those nozzles?

I don't but you can jbweld the hole and redrill it

Never heard before of needing to drill out anything on midly modded saws! Typically there are a few screws named "H, L, T " which are turned in or out to make a saw run properly. Looks like new carb time. Sounds more like the carb needing a proper cleaning before instead of any drilling.

I drilled one for a ported 346 and it works just fine on that saw but I just put together a slightly modded 357 with a cross drilled el42 and while it starts on choke & runs fine on the h needle it will note idle, gotta be something else in there. Will pull it off today.

I was a little worried about JB weld in continuous gasoline immersion. Better just to get another nozzle if possible. I can pull this one back out again and solder that second hole shut also, and try again with a smaller diameter hole.

My buddy might have accidently made the original hole larger as well, which would be easy to do.

Painful news on the nozzle project. New ones come with about a 3 month lead time, according to the vendor I tried to buy a couple from this morning. The good news is that its a $4.00 part. I think I'll fall back to the soldering up the second hole and going from there.

Good excuse to buy a pin vise and a few tiny drill bits!

I'm a little puzzled why mine went pig-rich the way it did. What drill number or diameter do you use when you do the operation?

I can pull it back out and check. I shot carburetor cleaner through it and gave it a visual once over, but I didn't use the air compressor on it. Maybe I should have.

The part lookup said its a check valve. Maybe its a dumb question, but will the air compressor mess that up? I pulled that stunt on my 242 and was rewarded with a ruined check valve for my ignorance, which is why I ask.

Blow air across the top of it. If anything is inside it will be pulled out. Check metering height too.

i bought a set of them for when i build kart engines. pretty good for hf

They are sharp little buggers, just hold one against your fingertip & give it a little turn & it immediatly is caught in your fingerprints.

Those are definitely on the list. I pulled the nozzle back out of the carburetor and it did in fact have a couple of stray metal shavings in it. Good call by Mastermind on that one.
