Friday has been a interesting one so far. Had a Kawasaki TG 18 line trimmer come in at he same time as a small mower . This has to be the oldest trimmer iv seen , no idea how old but look at the carb set up.... Primmer and that leaver at the bottom on the metering side of the carb. I wouldn't know what the correct procedure on using that lever is but it seems to squirt fuel out of a fuel tube if you press it once you have used the prime bulb.

That looks like some kaaz/Mitsubishi brushcutter/trimmers that were sold here late 80s tk carbs damn tough machines.
I still service many of them nearly bulletproof but the carb is a *b-word to rebuild.
My friend was the master tech for the dealer here he has nos engine's but no carbs.

Thats the little booger Dave...Kawasaki powerhead also used on a hedge trimmer body and used by other makers ..Danarm , Shinny as well i think.
Have worked on the newer ones in the range but not the powerhead using a TK carb with tickler leaver and bulb . This one works really well without opening it up ..thankfully..! so it got left alone.
Kawasaki TJ trimmers ...i like a lot.. the new sort of lift plunger carb (or what ever you call the carb ) is no big prob. Funny you should mention Kaaz ....there behind some excellent made kit in my opinion. If you get a mower for a family member you have to trust what you get them !:)
This....

This....
A guy paid my friend 500.00 to completely rebuild a kaaz.
He wouldn't buy a new brushcutter
The seals were spinning in the housing and it still ran.
I've got a very nice shinny with a new tk carb coils nla though.
And i have some old stihl branded echo's i believe they are that need carbs.

It often comes down to the spares or how much time it takes to try and trace them.
Stihl i suppose is the one brand i stand a chance on getting bits for without to much messing about. Ms 024/240 and Ms 260 are a real popular saw around me due to the Agri dealers selling Stihl for a long time.
Some Dolmar saws are finding favour with some customers ...cant think how that is happening :D

the only pushers i do are 2 cycle. but i only repair them for myself but i do sell one once in a great while.
i sold one to brett on here aka gobigblue1984 and he already wants another lol.
Lawn Boy .. right Jake.....Victor make/made a 2 stroke 4 wheeled mower but i dont think Lawn Boy made it over here. Most 2 stroke mowers we have /had (that i know of ) are hover mowers, but victor made a play for sloping ground with there 2 stroke wheeled mower as it would cope over 20/25 degrees slope that the splash lube 4 strokes wouldn't. Seen your vids on Lawn Boy ...they look like a very decent bit of kit.

Slopes are what kills Briggs oppossed twins .Most people have no idea these engine fling oil from the left hand side facing forward .Always blow the grass up hill .To do down hill you take a real good chance of ruining the engine .BTW when a twin cylinder Briggs ties up it breaks both rods usually .

All good info Al....I have had in a 4stroke contractors walk behind mower that was meant to be up to banks.... The single cyl Subaru motor had a oil pump with a cartridge screw on oil filter.

Apart from the visual thing of leaving a striped lawn if you go up and down ,they are helpful if you need to "slightly "overhang a edge .
They tend not to tilt sideways much if a front wheel is not fully on the mowing surface. They also help with the smoothing of the lawn...there like having 2 mowers in 1. The ease and adaptability of a rotary but with the strip finish from the roller . There could be a element of tradition as well i guess Dave as it was common to have a cylinder mower with a roller behind before the rotary mower became popular and was the main sort of mower used on the average lawn. This was a very common sort of mower in the 50's 60's and 70's until the rotary took over and we treated the task of lawn keeping differently. I walked miles behind one of these when i was a kid.

We had a reel type mower when I was a kid .I used the engine and a bicycle frame to make a mini bike when I was 14 years old .When it came time to mow I had to put the engine back on the mower .

I've only used a non powered cylinder type a little worked good on flat ground.
But there is very little flat ground here lol
Here is the average usually worse than this condition saw i got in.
The guy ran it for two years like this
He couldn't afford another.
Handle fuel system and oil pump issue's.
Saw's get run hard here lol
I keep mine clean in between cutting but dead ash is filthy.
Snake's are heavy this year mild winter.20170611_185228.jpg 20170611_184129.jpg 20170607_194044.jpg 20170607_194038.jpg 20170611_184759.jpg

I found the pictures of that ms 250 earlier ! take it there is cash enough to fix ? That group of Stihl saws i never enjoy doing major work on with the way there designed ...Dare say there is ease that comes with being more familiar with them. You can keep your "Wild Life " ! We only really have grass snakes and our one mildly poisonous snake the "Adder". Not much bites, stings or chases you about over here that can do you much harm Dave.. thankfully. Ash die back is here but not everywhere so at least the Ash i have is nice and green to cut...iv taken to doing much more processing in the green than i used to , easier on chains than the dry stuff i find.

It's on my dime he's helped me out before.
People don't like that series but they do the job and after a little basic work muffler timing and carb.
They run and cut very well i do a lot of clamshell saw's now.
I really like it when they disassemble the saws for me lol14972869295101901713207.jpg 1497286971711-2031096152.jpg

Totally agree when there working fine there a decent saw ..its more down to my lack of in depth familiarity with the hole group and not having the tricks others have when they know them well. You have a parts saw there Dave to provide the back handle.
Hopeful a new Dolmar Hedge trimmer has been sold today (first one ) and there is ps 420 on its way for demonstrations.

A customer of mine puts in stock fencing amongst other things so often not near any where with power. He has a BT 45 like in the pic....nice bit of kit for doing the bigger holes he needs on gate posts. Clogged air filter and a carb tune , good to go.
