Trees you've cut

Thought I'd start a thread on trees you've cut and what saw you used to do the job. This was a 3 foot 150+ yr old ash I cut at my uncles house, it was too close to his fence/house and was pretty easy to drop however. I pre cut a smaller sycamore so it when bigger maple fell it would break out of the way. Used a 576xp and 372 to cut it down.

mostly poplar this year about a meter wide. And the collateral damage black alder. With the blue Dolkita 7910.

Working on a whit oak taking a break bout to head to lunch got 38" on stump. Pretty big girl. Splitting it is s *b-word

Is there a difference between a Sycamore and a maple ( never heard of the name Sycamore but note that I'm european)

Sycamore is pretty stringy and not really easy to split. The maple is far harder and better firewood. I would have left the sycamore alone but it was in the way and hollow as well.

sycamore is usually near water sources and stays wet for a long time

Big ash about 32" used a 660 w/36" & 20" and my 026 16".

The sycamore in the pic was a b**ch to split, as others have said it's a stringy wood that always looks clear and straight grained til you get into it. Sycamore is of the Genus "Maple" and as such is a close relative of all the other maples that you have. It's slightly softer than the other maples however it can make nice lumber, and the nature of the grain can often give it a birds eye pattern. However as there's a lot of it and it isn't valuable whatsoever i use it to make post and rail fencing or simply firewood

Spot on JB and I don't know about your part of the country but down here with our damp climate it goes black and mouldy quickly If stored in damp

Be honest with you fellas those big bastards are work. Got that big white oak gales away today split and moved. Took a few sessions to get all that done. At least three full cords in it without a doubt. I prefer those 18 25 inch trees for firewood And the smaller than that ones are easier yet. I do like hearing the big ones slam But after that the work begins. I have blisters on my hands.. been a good long while since I've ever had blisters. I'm cracking a beer on that note

If i didn't have major work tommorrow I'd be drinking more just really like the taste of just one once in a while. I did all this for a 65 yr old friend. No charge. Sorta a barter type of deal. He's good people if you know him right. I owed the man money. He declined payment asked about some firewood. Horse traded. Knotty green oak splits mean though when they get that size. White oak especially. And willow. Red is a dream compared.
