This is for northern Virginia, in a swampy part of my property, not good drainage, facing north, bordering a creek. I understand that Leyland Cypress wouldn't like the poor drainage. My property is full of white oak mainly with some red oak, a few hickory trees, a black cherry, and a few holly trees (not planted as far as I know). I can provide pictures.

Please bear in mind that I prefer function over form and really hate doing a lot of landscape maintenance other than running a saw and making firewood. Also kinda on a budget, would prefer not expensive recommendations but if that's it, that's it.

I dunno. The ones I saw were pretty impressive. Tall, straight fast growing. There's about 400 varieties of willow. VA Tech probably has done research on it.

Tulip poplar thrives at my uncles place in a swampy woods. They grow fast as well. They are a very large tree though if your space is limited to keep that in mind.

I reckon it's about a 100 yard by 10 yard strip in between my creek and the county road that I'm looking to plant trees on.

It would make a fence. Dunno if it likes wet ground though. No clue

Northern white cedar is my favorite here. Don't take up much space, nice shape, good windbreak and the birds like them. Eastern red cedar are similar in size and better for wildlife cover as their needles are prickly. I am not sure how they would do if it is in swamp, I think well drained soil is reccomended. Norway Spruce will take up considerable space.
Might check with district forester if your state has them.
