Zeppelin bend is a great knot. The Carrick is perhaps even better, though takes just a bit of practice.
Hehehe
Thanks. Here's a little video of me tying it.
What thickness rope are you pulling with a truck? I just snapped a 1 inch Tenex sling with a truck.I use the rope when I cut trees next to houses as a little insurance. I cut from the ground. I either hook the rope to my truck or have a helper pull the rope.
When hooked up to my truck, and my truck pulls the rope, the braided nylon really tightens up.
Why boat rope? Use Arborist rope.I think it was 9/16 rope. Not very big, but had high break resistance. lol
I asked the rope to do more than it was designed to do. I am looking at some 1" or larger triple braided nylon boat rope to replace it.

What arborist rope do you suggest?
That is good advice and wisdom to live by. Buy your line as a hank instead of a straight shot. You will thank my later after all the "pulling" is done. A thimble added will save the eye loop from tear out and overstress during heavy loads. A sweat shirt at mid-line keeps breakoffs tame.Try a bowline on a bight breaks a little easier after heavy tension, just remember a knot robs up to 70% of strength, a spliced eye retains 70+
