I have been thinking about getting a Super Split for sometime. I am getting closer to pulling the trigger. What is the bed height of a SS? What does the hitch look like? Is the bearing under the pusher very expensive? Is there anything else I should know, good or bad before ordering one?

If nobody chimes in I would PM one or all of them. I think I can speak for the 2 I mentioned and say they would be willing to answer any questions.

I was thinking about making my own hitch. I found a good picture of one last night. For what the materials would cost and then my time, I would be best off buying one.

The stock table is 29 inches high.

I added my own hitch to pull around the yard. None highway.

Made my own table for second one. Just little widder.

Thanks, I wish they were a little higher than 29.'' Nice job on the table and hitch After seeing your pictures if I get one I'll make my own hitch. I was planning on making my own table. I read on AS that @KiwiBro used IHMW for his table surface and I like that idea. Is that 2x2 angle for the frame of your table and how thick was it?

USMC615 has his for sale. He is taking it to the Mastermind GTG in Dec. If it is not already gone.

It looks like he lives in Georgia and I am in Virginia so it would be tough to work out a deal.

Metal is one piece 2" x 3" angle and several pieces of 2" angle and one piece of 2" x 1/2 flat. Tube is 2 x 2 " all scrap from craigslist. All the angle iron is 1/4 thick.

Afternoon folks...to the OP, height to the top of the I-beam/worktable is 29". I remember an SS owner, cant remember his name on AS (avatar I believe shows his SS and a conveyor setup, from WI) but he added spacer blocks to where the front leg and rear axle leg/attachment points are...I remember he said he really like the increase in table height. The cam followers/roller bearings, return springs, return bumpers are not expensive at all to replace.

My plan is to bring my SS HD to the Tennessee GTG and let folks who may have never split with one, give it a go. Right now, I have a brother who is interested in purchasing it and told him I'd give him first stab it, but that he needs to have the money NLT mid-Nov, which he said was fine with him as far as a timeframe goes.

I set the table leg end up on a three inch block in front of the conveyor, and then chock the wheels. Elevating helps the ram return, and all the small splitter crap vibrates off the back of the table and not so much onto the conveyor. Really would like a hitch, but it needs to be on the engine end if using a conveyor. To me that means four wheels at some point. Winter project. I found spindles and tie rods online under go-kart parts.

Not trying to be nosy, but why are you getting rid of yours? Do you not have the need for it anymore or did you get something better?

You see any reason the axle couldn't be widened to make the splitter a little more stabile for towing. Would it be easy to do?

Keep in mind these are not road towable and that leg does not fold up. If you build your own hitch it will need to be low enough to get the leg sufficiently off the ground, otherwise you will be dragging the leg.

Easy but not so easy. Complete replacement of wheels and axel. The tires and axel are not meant to be on the road. Once you get everything you almost have enough stuff to make a trailer to load the super split onto.

The center of gravity is pretty high on the SS. If you flipped one towing, the outcome would likely be disastrous. Ron

Yes, I know, it happened to Doug (flipped one that is). It seems like they (SS) would widen the base, not for towing on the road but for towing around the yard; or, put the motor on the axle to lower the center of gravity. SS seems to be resistant to improve on their product. For these reasons, I favor the Split Second Log Splitter, which is height adjustable also. It is hard to get past the proven reliability of the Super Split and the lack of success with other previous attempts at a kinetic splitter. Split Second seems to have accomplished it; I just wish they were cheaper than a SS.

I would haul it on a trailer. I have 2'' receivers on the front of my car and utility trailers. I can put a ball mount in it and latch the splitter on it. I also use it for my winches. I'm still not that crazy about the leg not folding on the front.

I really like the looks of a Split Second. It is like an improved Super Split. I like the adjustable height, the retractable tow hitch, ground clearance, and lower center of gravity. The two things I really don't like are no Honda engine option and the two handed operation. There may be a way to make it one handed like the Super Split. Then Super Split does have a great reputation.
