Grinding help

When grinding chain, do you grind from the inside out like filing or outside in to not leave a bur?

Both!

Most current grinders do not have reversible motors, so one dude is ground inside-out, and the other outside-in.

Not a big deal. Any burr dissapers in a fraction of a second in the wood.

yep one way wheel - its an OSHA thing so as mitigate breathing in grinding dust. converting back to dual directions can be done with a little creative wiring. there are how to diagrams around maybe utube vids as well. going back more than 30 years the units were bi-directional.

I am always grinding from the outside in on my AMA MAXX (Italy) grinder.
It has a chain clamp that swings around for LH/RH teeth.

hey Wilhem how old is that grinder of yours? , The ones I was finding under AMA are not any different than everything else out there. How about a pic of it. Always looking for a better mouse trap that doesn't break the bank.

I think it is a 2009., will check and take pictures tomorrow after work.

Unfortunately the grinder will not go under 55° although I feel the desire to go shallower when grinding - but 55° is fine, just not aggressive.

Always grinding from the outside in, sparks always away from me.
Spring assisted pulley clamping of the DL's as the motor is pulled down.

Yes, wheel guard is still alive.
Had recently some more often wheel swapping and kept it off.
But YES, it should and will be mounted!

Never tried a MAXX grinder.

The Oregon / Tecomec grinders dominate here, so hard to run across a used one.

And some MAXX grinders got mixed reviews over on A.S.

Would like to try one if I got the opportunity.

I am usually fairly cautious , but I got annoyed taking it off and putting it on a couple times a day.
I have considered purchasing a second AMA MAXX to reduce wheel swapping, I like this grinder a lot!

I had one grinding wheel launch on me once. Partially my fault: I did not do a ‘ring test’ first.

It was a small one, but got my attention. Also, got the attention of the wall on the far side of the laundry room.

They also help control/ direct the dust.
