As far as "finding" firewood ,shag would be at the top of the list followed by oak .Indiana and Ohio have both cornfields and the pick of the litter when it comes to hardwoods.

Yes sir it is good wood.... I have another spot were I am getting ALOT of black walnut.... It is in a river bottom and I come across Osage orange quite a bit..... It is the hardest wood I have ever cut.... You can actually see sparks sometimes when cutting it.... It will dull chain faster that hickory I believe....I will upload some more pics but it's taking to long right now!!!

Osage orange,"hedge" is also almost rot proof in case you didn't know. I've been told it was introduced about civel war time from the plain states to the midwest where it was planted as hedge rows and used for fence posts that will last in many cases over 50 years .I cut a zillion posts as a teenager .

Yes sir... Ya know it's funny you say that... I have found log jams and you can find all different type of wood logs....all the woods will be rotten and soft, but when you put the saw to the Osage it is still very hard.... It really is an amazingly tough wood!!!

Some nice shagbark hickory I saved from the creek. It had been down for at least a few years. Somebody else had cut a couple pieces off at some point, but I guess they were too scared to haul it up out of there cause they just left it lay. I love some hickory smoked goodness though, and I ain't a sceered. IMG_2501.JPG IMG_2502.JPG IMG_2503.JPG IMG_2505.JPG

Ya I tell ya were I am as long as wood isn't on the ground and smothered at the bottom of a huge pile, it will last..... I have had oak logs on the ground at the bottom of a pile last 3 years... Granted it was starting to go bunk....as long as it can dry after a rain, it last pretty long for me...

Hey when ya get a chance throw up some pics.... I am either cutting, splitting, or stacking wood everyday.... Yes it is a sickness!!!!!

Yeah between chainsaws for fun and nonstop remodeling work I don't have much down time. Most everything is cut with my DCS6401(Makita) but I also have newer to me MS200T and 394xp for those special times the Makita isn't suited for. In the process of rebuilding a 034 for the ranch I work at a lot and a 044 for a friend. If and when I find the time it sure will be nice having the 034 as a lighter weight limbing saw to handle all the small stuff.
