Who is building most of the bike saws for the STIHL Timbersports series? Does Dennis Calhoon still build saws? Also feel free to throw up some pics of some good builds!

I just texted with a guy who has a saw being built at DC Hotsaws. A 350cc Honda.

Sweet! I’ve been debating on getting LED performance top end and building a 250r or having my buddy that builds drag snowmobiles design a head/ cylinder and CNC a crank case that will fit a trx250r stroker.

Sweet! I’ve been debating on getting LED performance top end and building a 250r or having my buddy that builds drag snowmobiles design a head/ cylinder and CNC a crank case that will fit a trx250r stroker.

Arlen does good work so does Pete at Hybrid Engineering, James JDI Racing, Jerry Hall Hall Precision Racing all do really good 250R engines.

Too bad cr500’s are so heavy... the CP industry liger cylinder on a saw would be insane. 560cc of pure madness... absolutely no way to be quick enough with a 110 pound saw and a insane pull to cold start it. Maybe a gtg and backyard toy lol @spencerpaving might be crazy enough to build such a saw

The liger isn’t a bolt on affair, they also were put on LT500 bottom ends. My CP industries cylinder was a puma on a R bottom end and that takes a ton of work to the cases to get them to bolt on.

Yea, I’m not 100% sure on the exact cylinder I’m going to use. I’ve been eyeing up a 78mm Sphinx and I believe that’s what a lot of people run on 250r cases. I have a buddy than cnc’s his snowmobile cases and I might sweet talk him into making me a custom billet case to match the jug

Before the puma I ran that sized Sphinx with a 4mm crank it ran really well and was smooth.

Most of the dc saws look like 85-91 Cr bottom ends with trx cylinder. The trx will bolt on to the mid 80’s cr cases, you can get an 81mm bore esr cylinder and build a 370cc with stock stroke. LED builds dc’s pipes. A sphinx at 78mm bore are nice but almost 3x the cost of the esr cylinder for not huge return. Arlan has build a couple 72hp esr 390cc motors that are within a few hp of his puma’s, he is around 75hp with the pumas, and I think the are about $1200 more. Have seen some 85hp pumas but they are rare! And you need tons of carb to get it. Arlan’s sphinx’s make a few more than his esr’s in the same displacement, but they are a bit more expensive too.

Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you all well and safe going into 2021!
From my hotsaw observations there is definitely a horse power limit to how much chain speed and chip flow a race chain can handle.
Pictured below is about the limit for a reliable / fast chain you can put on a 60 plus hp hotsaw.
Doing a cold start and making 3 complete cuts in a 19" diameter pine log in a 5 second time bracket is about all machine and humanly possible.

I always thought it would be cool to do banshee engine saw. The twin would be heavy though.

He finished his first cut in the time I finished making my three with my little YZ125.
Pretty scary watching him attempt it with a engine capable of well over 100hp. He was operating on pure adrenaline surrounded by hundreds of cheering people packed into a indoor arena.
Never saw him again after that, Lol.

Yeah, it wouldn’t be very competitive. But twin pipes, carbs, & v-stacks. Pretty cool stuff.

I haven't got my CR250 or CR500 bikesaws in the wood yet for testing, but from information I'm gathering from some top competitors in the sport the 46RST HTooth does stretch easily enough when you exceed 60hp.
My trusted info was from Mel Lentz himself.
