Living back near the city again, have a 1/2 acre to mow.

I’m leaning toward a push behind, a sit on top just seems like overkill/expense. Neighbor swears by his (sit on top) 15 years of use.

I just have never used anything other then a push behind or a tractor brush hog.

seems Honda is well liked?

1/2 acre
Low slope, just a 6’ gentle drop

1/2 acre is kinda on the fence for a rider vrs. a push mower. Remember we are all not getting any younger! What is your budget Larry?

Honda. Great power and mulch really well with the double blade. I like that you can adjust how much gets mulched and dropped or sent into the bag. Only complaint is that the rubber wheel covers wear out pretty quick. There is a trick to replacing them, without replacing the entire wheel. The wheels are about 20 to 25 bucks a piece.

I'd probably look for a Honda too. I have 2 Toro person pace mowers that are still currently made according to the model numbers. Both came from the junk pile.

Iff'n a push mower was all I needed lawn boy would be my choice. No oil changes or that annoying black smoke every time you tip a four stroke back too far.

And they can be had for cheap. The one pictured was purchased for 130 iirc and had been gone through by the dude who just happened to have a pile of them waiting their turn for a rebuild.

My house is surrounded by woods almost right up to the house but i bought a troy bilt push mower with a honda engine a few yrs ago just to mow down the sides of the driveway and what little grass is around the house. Been a good mower so far. Has some auto choke feature and has always started first or second pull even if it sits for awhile. It also has bigger wheels so it doesn't get hung up on everything. Im happy with it and I think it was around $300

Snapper hi-vac self propelled. I've had mine since 1981. I'm on the 3rd engine now. I used to cut 1-1/2 acres for 8 years with it. I use it just for trimming now. That's about 1/2 hour of trimming each time. I can still get parts for it too.
You must be good with maintenance and keeping up on it.
That's along time. What engines have you had on it?

I still have one of those as well, we got it when I was a kid. Would have been 85-86. It was bought by mom because the old craftsman took the tip of my fingers off....cause I was a dumba$$ kid. I should restore it. Good old mower.

Steve, I was trying to stay below $2k
Which seems to put me in the super high end walk behind mower or the lower end of the riders.

I’m the cry once, but once type. I can wait and save up if it means having a better machine.

All the neighbors have riders, I just don’t know enough about them to know which are quality and which are Home Depot junk.

mini tractor mower things, zero turns...lots of options.

@stretch5881
I grew up with an old snapper 5hp also. That thing was a beast. I believe my dad still has it.
