Kind of curious how everyone else is making out. Been pretty mild here in the Northeast, at least as you read the numbers. Median temps don't tell much of a story but the extremes do. Over night lows are an example as there have been more than twice as many nights this year where the temp stayed above freezing vs last year. Haven't had any sub zero readings yet either vs a half dozen last year to date. Only 2 single digits so far, but looks like Friday could see another. This hasn't had much affect on wood consumption for me though. Being somewhat mild doesn't mean that I'm letting the stove go out, so as long as there's a fire going, the wood pile is going down. I do "ride the coals" a little more between loadings and it's easier to keep the rooms further away from the stove warm, but overall wood use isn't all that different. Firewood sellers that come in the store aren't complaining about a lack of orders either. Guys who cut their own are loving the lack of snow cover and they are getting a jump on next years wood. Or in some cases, the guys who never cut enough are having an easier time harvesting dead ash to finish out this year. So, despite the temps, mostly normal here.

Kinda the same for me down here Bob. Wood consumption hasn’t really gone down, but my oil backup heat is definitely in saving mode.
Haven’t had it running once this season.
I've burned roughly 2 1/2 cords this far. Looking at another 1 1/2 - 2 more cords. I burned more wood earlier in the season than normal. Was a little colder in October and November.

I don't burn the unrefined cellulose fiber but I have noticed the price of cord wood drop with this milder weather out here.

Same here. Unless I'm away long enough for the fire to go out the oil burner hasn't kicked on much at all this year.

Been a easy winter on the wood so far. Nice to be above twenty degrees this time of year. Normally I can't get back on the seasonal roads because of the snow. This year that hasn't been a problem. Looking forward to cutting more before this winter's done. Liking it normally I try and get all I can between spring and fall.

At the beginning of the season I was all concerned that I wouldn't have enough wood to make it through May. Well, I just tapped into the second row of wood which means I have half of my supply left. Warmer temps combined with a dozen new windows and 3 new doors this last spring is making a huge difference in the wood consumption.

I've been at this house for six year's now
20 miles out on a ridge very remote
And have often had to drop standing dead ash for neighbors that ran out of wood.
Not this year the coldest day was 18*
And we had 4" of snow once that's all we've had
All winter it melted in two day's.
My 89 year old neighbor who's farmed all his life has never seen anything like it.
It's been great for my electric bill 90.00 was the highest.20200207_150335(1).jpg

One 16" snow on Dec 1st; then just two 4" "storms" since. Almost the whole winter without snow cover on the ground has allowed me to harvest some wood with my quad and trailer that I normally wouldn't have done. Maybe 2 cords worth for next year just playing around. I like cutting in this bug-free weather. LOL

On my second cord now, usually I'm into my 4th
Might need to move piles around so the newly C/S/S stuff is burned after the older stuff next winter .................. never had to think logistically like this before

Moderate lol.

Can't gauge it since constant upgrades the last few.
Can say for first time in my life, one tree will last the season, a big one.
Insulation, doors n windows n stuff start paying you back as soon as installed.
I need to get cutting, darn mud.

My friend wanted me to cut 30/40 tree's for him
For a garage seat
With his saw it hadn't been run in a while
So I stopped by
And he handed me a damn 455
We saved the hickory and maple for firewood and burned the poplar and pine.20200209_160749_HDR.jpgI cut them high so a dozer or excavator can rip them out.
Funny part is I needed to tighten the chain
But someone had stolen his old saw box with files, wrenches, wedges from the back of his truck
But didn't touch the 455 that was next to the box
I can't blame them.

We've burnt far less wood than normal, despite it being the only source of heat in the house. There's been a few colder spells here, but overall has been stupid warm compared to normal though. We finally got a little winter this weekend and the high is 25 friday, so we'll start putting a bigger dent in the pile.

People like those newer huskys i just can't
If it's got a primer bulb it's not a saw imho
And it's near the weight of a 266.

Having the boiler in the garage my wood consumption fluctuates noticably with the outdoor temps. Been doing pretty well so far, between five six cords. I'd suspect two more will get us through. I just switched over from some 3-4 year old seasoned Ash to a pile of mostly oak. Hated to do that this time of year but the ash had to be cleaned out of the barn so I burned it first.

Been cutting here and there all winter as well, it's nice to stay ahead.

I've burned about 2 ricks so far. It's been extremely mild here. I've mainly ran the stove just to keep from cutting the heat pump on. If it's a warmer day, I just open a few windows and ride the coals.
