I keep realizing how having my "Dragon Slayer" ax makes me not needing a splitter!

Yesterday, turkey oak knot, my old faithful ax went straight through.

Not bad at only 1.8kg of weight, though on a 40" handle. ;)
I can swing this thing all day long without getting tired. :)

This particular ax makes splitting large firewood rounds a pleasure, I enjoy it almost as much as I like bucking logs. :)

That long handle can really generate some power!
On straight grain rounds I only lift the ax and let gravity do the work.
The ax head is only 1.8kg which is a little under 5lbs, I can swing it in rapid fire mode without getting tired.

I tried 32" handles when I couldn't source a 40", they don't work for me at all.

About finished cleaning up this old Plumb #4 I found. Need a handle yet..

Don't know yet if I'll leave as is, polish a bit more, or apply a patina. It took a very nice edge.
