    Gas in airfilter

I have a new(5 tanks of gas)Echo 4910 all stock except MM to near 100percent. Problem is I cleaned air filter today and it had fuel stains on it. It was very dirty as was entire carb and box. Saw is running great. Should I be concerned? What would cause this? Saw was set quite rich. I have...

    Exhaust theory

On my çs4910 I measured the ex port, muffler flange, muffler exit hole and exit hole cover. All in square inches@ .43, .68, .38 and cover @.3. after opening it up alot. What am I looking for? No restrictions? I expect to make ex port much larger eventually but for now what is common practice?

Got what I paid for husky 350

I was given a 350 with smoked piston/ cylinder. I ordered a $39 including shipping kit. I got it and it looks ok but ports are very small compared to stock, the piston is two rings instead of one and look to prevent much in way of porting because of ring pin locations. I know wish I had...

    Fun cutting firewood

Moderators please move this to correct place. I've cut firewood for over 40 years. A lot of it was work I put off and didn't care for. Since I joined OPE it's become much more enjoyable. First off a good running and easy starting saw with a sharp chain is required. Second is if you cut with...

    GTG competitions

I just saw my first gtg competition Saturday. It was fun and very educational. The host was extremely knowledgeable and generous with everything saw related. Thanks EJ. I'm a firewood cutter and want to improve my experience doing it so I want to see things that apply to me. This is just my...

    Walbro hdb-18

I have one on a poulan 4000 and it has two perpendicular bars in Venturi. I want more fuel/air so I was wondering if I could remove the vertical bar to venturi throat dia?

    Old Open Port Transfers

I'm trying to find info on porting these and can't seem to find much. Homelite and Poulan seem to be almost identical. Poorly shaped both tunnels, tops(exits)and size? They seem to be big enough compared to intake and exhaust size. Any info would help. Mine is 84 Poulan 4000. It starts out...

First Attempt Build Old poulan 4000

I've got a old 1984/5 saw that is pretty ruff that I would like to restore plus some. Problem is there is so much to these simple little saws, I'm scared of ruining it. Being a 4 stroke guy I thought I could find some easy fast improvements. Not so. Carb has two bars in throat forming a...

    Poulan 4000 Stock Numbers

First time I've ever done this so if not right don't be surprised. I've got ex open@98.5atc for163* dur. not much power stroke. Trans @124.5 for 111* and int@65btc for 130, blow down 26*. Looking over other saw numbers either I did it wrong or these are moderate numbers except ex opens a lot...

    Base Gasket Delete Porting

Ok I did a search on what happens when squish is reduced by BGD or cylinder base cut. I know it's here somewhere but I can't find it so let's discuss it now. I'm new to this so bear with me. By lowering the cylinder on the piston(or raising piston in cylinder) the compression and power stroke...

    Old saw rpm,s limit

I have a old 1984 poulan 4000 and would like to raise rpm,s from 8500 to 10k. Porting must be changed I know but what is holding these down as compared to current saws? Bearings can be updated as ports will be but weight of crank, rods and pistons may be biggest detriment to gaining 2k rpm...

    Couple questions

I'm kind of peeved. Why do we need all the different bar mount designs? This should be standardized with just a small medium and large- period. In Europe they had over 100 different cell phone cords. Just passed a law all must be the same now. We need that for universal bar mounts. Second...

    Newbies shouldn't go to GTG,s

I went to my first gtg and it was very small do to weather scaring everyone away. But I got to run my first ported saws, learned a lot, met some great people and had fun doing it. Problem is my saw was running great before I went but now runs like a worn out piece of crap. It's running the...

    Setting up a cs590

I'm wanting to set up my echo to have a little fun with friends of mine. Sort of a wow moment for them. I want to port saw a little to highlight torque to run a 20" 8 pin rim clutch. I'm not sure about what all the chains are or if parts are available to do it. First off the only chain...
