I love my S&W 637. I've shot it so much I had to replace the springs in it.

My mom has a ton of airline and hotel points that are soon to expire so she is taking me and the kid to Yellowstone. Trip of a lifetime, and I've resolved not to put anything on credit cards. So, buying any saws is out of the picture right now.

There is a nice looking 041 on Fleabay for $150.00. Allegedly it ran last year, year of production comes up as 1979 on a serial number decoder I found. If it's still available when I get back from vacation I may buy it...

Looks like they were made from 1967-1986 so bunches of them out there.

Anybody here an 041 fan? My papaw had one as his only saw and he worked it hard for years on several different farms. It was the second saw I ever ran, first was dad's Homie Super 2. Sadly, an opportunistic relative by marriage snagged it after he passed. If I came across a nice one I might buy...

Got my Powercare chaps, which is actually HD house brand. They are about what I expected. Bulky and don't fit particularly well, but they cover most of the legs. Easy to get on/off and adjustable straps too. Biggest thing I don't like is that there is gap in coverage of about five inches down...

I'm not an expert on saws by any means. What I observed was about what I would expect out of a stock saw with bleeding edge technology that costs 2 grand. Yeah, it really rips. As it should for that kind of money. I would be pretty upset if it didn't.

Kewl. Mine had a little chain of ball bearings like a pull cord for a light bulb. You pulled the starter cord to wind it up, then press the trigger and the chain would spin.

Awesome, thanks so much! I've watched a couple of videos on it. Looks like if you leave some bar length between the wood and the clutch cover you can keep it from clogging up as much.

So, when cutting a log lengthwise like shown, do you start with the saw bar perpendicular to the end of the log? Or do you cut lengthwise into the bark keeping the bar at an angle? I have lots of smaller hardwood branches that would make nice small boards for shelving and such.

Ethanol is actually a very good motor fuel, the engine components and fuel metering need to be set up properly for it. Isn't straight ethanol like 140 octane or something crazy like that? I think switching fuels to renewable sources will help keep internal combustion engines viable instead of us...
