Well, after chewing on what is posted above, I realized that I'd be pushing my exhaust number the wrong way, i.e raising it to 100*, not lowering it to, say, 103*-104*. Oops!

That's good stuff. I still need to put it in big wood with my numbers that I have and see how she goes. I also have the option of using a base gasket again to give it a tad more grunt if need be.

Very nice! Seems like these saws like longer blowdown, just like Mastermind (if memory serves) said in one of the porting posts regarding double vs. quad transfer cylinders.

Welp, I have an 6'x8' flatbed and can drag a good sized trailer, as well. I'll be heading out with 3 or 4 other guys from work, so the trip will be worth it.

Yes, at least no load. I've yet to get it in to decent sized wood. Fingers crossed, I'll head a couple hours away from the house to get a cord or two in a couple of weeks. Then, I'll really see what she's worth!

    What is freeport?

    Makes sense.

What were your final numbers after your port work? I believe I have similar numbers and your saw looks to run pretty strong. My numbers, after Motoseal, are as follows Ex: 102*, duration of 156* Int: 79*, duration of 158* Transfers: 129*, duration of 102* Blowdown: 27*

    What is freeport?

Is it because there is such a large area to deal with when both sides of the piston are considered? Also, the area on either side is essentially constant as the poison moves. In contrast the port at the bottom of the skirt is open briefly as the skirt clears the exhaust floor, then closes it on...

Yes, I have. Lots of good stuff. I don't have the ability to cut down the cylinder to set squish, but I can do pretty much everything else. My exhaust is a couple of degrees high compared to what I've seen from experienced guys like Red97, but it's been runing pretty well so far as I heat cycle...

    What is freeport?

Thank you for the explanation, Canadian Farm Boy. It's a lot simpler than I'd thought. More for me to chew on....

    What is freeport?

Gents, I've been looking everywhere for an answer, but have yet to find one. I hear a ton of talk about freeport, but no explanation of what it actually is, only that too much can be bad, but none or some can be good, depending on numerous factors. Would someone be kind enough to enlighten...

Thank you kindly, Mastermind. I'm glad I've found this resource. There are obviously many knowledgeable members here that are more than willing to share.

I'm new to the forum, but have been a pro lurker for a little while. I purchased a 590 last year to take down a problem tree. I've run saws in the past for firewood gathering, but they were all homeowner type, smaller displacement saws. This 590 was a big step up and I'm glad I did it. Over...
