My Runner ducks are planting eggs.
Yes, those are 3 eggs on their box floor.
This morning one on the floor and two in the nest.
Apparently Runners are notorious to just poop out their eggs wherever.

The other day one egg was on the lawn and chicken started picking at it.
Who knows how many eggs I loose/do not collect due to this.
The Runners don't eat their own nor chicken eggs.

What type of predators do do have in your area that will kill your ducks. I clearly know zero about Croatia so I am just wondering. Here the coyotes will kill anything on site by their sight.

I hate Coyotes!!!

Four legged, weasels, foxes (have been unafraid of humans to a point where they stroll around like cats/dogs) , martens, jackals (they keep being sighted closer to human living areas lately).

Airborne, several predatory birds, mostly small to medium sized.
We have hawks and eagles, and apparently Griffon Vultures in just one specific area of Croatia (looked it up, didn't know that, am surprised!)

I hope you do not shoot Eagles there now do ya.....humor intended, but here that will send a guy to prison.
Hawks can be an issue
Vultures here prey on left over deads
We do not have weasels but a mink is basically the same and they are death on roosting birds.
Foxes are not an issue as the damn coyotes kill all the young fox as well as some adults if they get hungry after devouring cats and dogs I have no idea how we still see few fox here every couple years. I found one dead carcass this spring and that was the first in 20 years.
We do not have marterns, I believe they are up north.
A jackal is probably similar to what we have here as coyotes, a K9 bastard.

I hate coyotes with a passion and will finally be putting out a challenge to hunters here (my local area) this week to see who is a real hunter or a wannabe weekend jockey.

I am betting no one takes up my offer

After it was loaded the driver said “at least it drove up here under its own power”. Yeah that doesn’t make me feel better about the crunchy sound coming from the transmission 🤮. We should know what the damage is tomorrow sometime. I need this girl to spray with late next week so I told them to get after it !! Anyone know a ballpark on a new IVT transmission 😬

No, I don't harm predatory birds, nor any other "wild" bird for that matter.
I am glad the wild life is repopulating after all the illegal hunting during and after the civil war.
I see pheasants, deer and rabbits on my walks with the pup, predatory birds can always be seen circling the skies.
I am fairly certain I ONCE saw a jackal eyeballing me & my pup from afar, felt unreal, it was just staring at us.

Yes, jackals are kinda European coyotes.
They are considered intrusive and the hunting community does jackal hunting rallies.
They are considered more dangerous that foxes, to my knowledge there was one attack on a human by a jackal this year in my area.
Foxes are being actively shot (exclusively by the hunting community) and all carcasses are tested for rabies - apparently a high percentage of our fox population got it.

I protect my yard against predatory birds with computer hard disk "disks" hung up on tree branches.
They irritate and discourage predatory birds from eyeing prey in my yard as the shiny coated aluminum disk reflect sun light - although this doesn't work on cloudy days.

We do the discs too. It seems to help. Been trying to befriend some crows, they keep hawks away, but it seems this process is going to take a while. Been feeding them, but they are wary. We had a bobcat here once, as well as possum and raccoon. The coyotes seem to stay away from the house area. I only catch them on game camera out back. My birds are protected from possum and raccoon by solar motion lights. They don't seem to like being lit up.

They DO help, the discs.
And as long as they don't get in touch with plant juices they stay shiny for an decade easy.
They flash so strong it sometimes irritates us into the house when the beams go through a window.
But at least I'd like to think it is environment friendly, and we have them only surrounding our back yard where our domestic birds are.

Can You spot them? :)

We have crows coming over from the city park.
But they just fly through in search of a quick bite then head back to the park where they nest.
Apparently it is a rare/special crow species, they took better care of them than they do with humans after dozens possibly hundreds of them got hurt (and killed) in a really big hail storm 2021.

Crows eat everything around here. Them and squirrels are our main nemesis.

We don't have chickens and haven't for years now....so predators aren't really a problem. We do have cattle and have to worry about the newborns. For us, the black buzzard is the only predator that ever bothers our calves.
Do you have any mountain lions/cougars down there? We have them here but they are very rare. The first one killed in modern times was just a few miles south of me. It was an impressive animal.

My computer always warns me about "cougars waiting just for me" within a mile radius so I don't go outside of my mostly fenced yard!:rolleyes:

We hear of them from time to time. But I've not actually seen one.

There is no doubt there are whole lot more of them in areas than what the state DNR's want to tell folks. Now that does not mean we have a bunch in Illinois though. For years our local DNR officers were a husband and wife team that lived about 8 miles east of us. Our kids went to school together, played ball together, and my wife and I had their kids in class. I spent many baseball practices shooting the breeze with Laura. Back when the one was killed south of me she told me if I saw one to shoot it on sight. She said I was not even required to report it but she would appreciate it being turned in so they could documente it. At that time the "official" DNR stance was they do not exist. Well that changed when she herself shot one and the DNR reversed course. They are now protected here as well as the wolves they claimed never existed
